Auburn is about 30 miles northeast of Sacramento, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. |

Nevada City, and it's sister town Grass Valley, is about 20 miles north of Auburn. |

Foresthill is a very rural area northeast of Auburn. It's outside of the Desolution Wilderness, a remote area with no major towns. Much of this area is national and state park and recreation area. That's where the Cabin is. |
I developed a sophisticated alarm system, as detailed in the story. Here is a rough block diagram of the house/cabin and calculator alarm system. The design is patented, and currently owned by a large international security firm. Or, at least it was ... I don't know what happened to them after The Problem.
