POST 05.08

The procedure there was basically the same as at the other place. Say hello to the receptionist and the boss. Check out the system, applied some patches, installed and tested the back door programs, looked at the various log files. I didn't find any problems at this place either, so I was done by about 4:15pm. I got back into the car, put the top down (it was a pleasant 83 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze), and stopped by the Golden Arches for a large orange drink for the trip back home. No cheeseburgers this time, my appetite was leaning towards some Mexican food.

The drive, as usual, was quite pleasant. Not much traffic, the weather was nice, and the car handled the slightly curved highway quite nicely. During the drive home, I mentally reviewed the progress of my investigation, and made plans to crash into some more systems that evening.

By the time I got to Auburn, it was about 5:30, so I stopped off at Maria's Mexican Restaurant for a nice taco and enchilada meal. They make their own tortillas fresh for each order, and there's a generous supply of butter to slather on the tortillas as you eat the meal. These are not fast-food meals you find at the local "Bell", but authentic, non-mass-market, home-cooked style Mexican dinners. It's a private place, just a bit noisy, but not too much. And Maria takes care of me, since I am somewhat of a regular patron there.

While eating, I made some notes on my Sony Clie handheld. I planned out the night's attack, and made a list of some minor enhancements to my programs that would make them more efficient, and more 'stealthy'. The Clie got a bit stained by taco sauce, though.
