I arrived at the apartment, and checked the alarm system's remote LED: still green, no intruders. I unlocked the door, and the remote LED change to red, and went to the "calculator" to enter the disarm code. Just to make sure, I checked the remote LED outside; it was green. So I went back to the calculator and entered the "go to sleep" code. Back to the remote LED, it was off. I re-locked the front door.
You might think that I was being a bit paranoid. Perhaps, but I've always found that it is a good idea to make sure things are working properly. The alarm test only took a couple of minutes, but I now knew that it was working properly.
I grabbed a big glass, poured in some lime KoolAid, grabbed a couple of cookies (you know what kind), and sat down at the computer.
I fired up the computers, loaded the new programs, and did some basic checks of the systems. I moved the modem connection to a different line, because I didn't want to use the same phone line for every attack. Yeah, there's that paranoid feeling again, but "better safe...".
