POST 14.01

The rest of the spring wasn't as eventful as that last trip. I kept busy. After recovering from the mountain lion attack, I went on my weekly hikes, always looking out for any two and four legged critters, or any sign of any habitation.

I also tried the radio, but the electrical power was still pretty spotty. Around the middle of May I made another trip into Foresthill. I was much more careful this time, watching out for all kinds of critters. I was able to pick up some more useful things at the hardware store. I also went into the Chinese restaurant, and found some canned food back in its storeroom. I also found a bit of canned food in a couple of the less-damaged houses. I was careful to only get undamaged cans.

I also looked carefully in the dust and dirt inside the buildings, and on the sidewalks. The weeds were taking over all of the yards, and dirt was drifting up in many places. Dust was everywhere, but the only tracks I saw were critter-based. (I was careful about leaving my own tracks, scattering dirt or brushing my tracks out with branches.) And I was really careful about looking for tracks made by big kitty-cats. I didn't see any of those, thank goodness.

But that trip then was uneventful, as were the several others I took that year.

There's not too much to tell about that period of time. Just a day-to-day existence taking care of things around the cabin, and some day hikes to check out the surroundings.

The next winter was also uneventful. The wood stove worked well, and I supplemented my food supply the garden and a bit of hunting with the bow and arrow. I had some winter vegetables growing in the greenhouse during the winter, which was pretty cold that year, with a couple of good snowstorms keeping snow on the ground through January and February.
